Boulder fields and Vijayanagara ruins, finally cool enough to walk

Why go now

Hampi is a UNESCO site spread over 26 square kilometres of open granite with almost no shade, and from March to June the stone radiates heat well past sunset. October and November bring daytime temperatures back into the twenties, the Tungabhadra is still running high from the monsoon, and the boulder landscape turns briefly green — the version of Hampi that photographs well and the one summer visitors never see.

What a typical package covers

  • Return flights or train from your departure city
  • Hotels or homestays on twin sharing, hand-picked rather than allocated
  • Daily breakfast, and dinner where the location has no reasonable alternative
  • A dedicated vehicle with driver for the whole itinerary
  • All permits, entry formalities and inter-city transfers
  • A named coordinator on WhatsApp for the length of the trip

Not included

  • Lunches, and any meal not named in the itinerary
  • Monument and activity tickets unless stated on your quote
  • Anything personal — laundry, tips, phone, medical

Know before you go

  • 1The site is enormous and there is no shade. Start at 6:30 am, break from noon to three, resume at four — anything else is a mistake.
  • 2Hampi Bazaar side and Anegundi side are separated by the river with limited crossings. Choose your accommodation side deliberately.
  • 3Hospet is the railhead and the nearest airport is Hubli or Bengaluru. Overnight trains from Bengaluru are the sensible route.

Questions

Hampi — Frequently asked

If yours is not here, call or WhatsApp us — the desk answers, not a bot.

Yes, more than at almost any other Indian site. Hampi is a ruined city, not a single monument, and without someone explaining the Vijayanagara layout it reads as scattered rocks. We include a licensed guide for the two main days; the price difference is small and it changes the trip completely.

Two nights covers the main circuits at a comfortable pace. Three lets you add Anegundi across the river and Daroji bear sanctuary, which is worth it if you have the time. One night is not enough for a site this size.

Older children love it — it is essentially a giant boulder playground with temples in it. Under-sixes struggle with the walking distances and heat. We build a shorter, vehicle-heavy version for families with toddlers.
