Why go now
Kerala's peak season is December to February, and its prices behave accordingly. September to November gives you the same backwaters at their absolute greenest, immediately after the monsoon has refilled them, at roughly two-thirds of the December rate. Ayurveda centres consider this the best treatment season of the year because the humidity opens the pores — that is not marketing, it is the traditional Karkidakam logic that Kerala families follow themselves.

It rarely rains all day. The usual pattern is a bright morning, a heavy afternoon burst, then a clear evening. We schedule backwaters and estate walks in the morning and indoor experiences — Ayurveda, Kathakali, spice markets — for the afternoon, which is why the itineraries look different from the December ones.
It is one of the easiest destinations in India for them. Roads are good, medical care in Kochi and Kottayam is excellent, food is gentle, and almost nothing requires walking long distances. The one caution is Munnar's hairpin ascent, which can be uncomfortable for anyone prone to motion sickness — we can build a backwaters-and-coast itinerary that skips the hills entirely.
Roughly 30–40% on hotels and houseboats, and flights into Kochi are typically ₹3,000–6,000 lower per person. The saving is real and it is the strongest practical argument for the green season, alongside having Alleppey almost to yourself.
