Why go now

Georgia is Europe at a third of European prices, and autumn is when it is at its best. Rtveli, the grape harvest, runs through late September and October in Kakheti — family wineries open their doors, qvevri are unsealed, and it is a genuine cultural season rather than a tourist event. The Kazbegi road turns gold at the same time, and Tbilisi's summer heat has gone. By December the Jvari Pass to Kazbegi closes intermittently for snow.

Know before you go

  • 1Indian passport holders need an e-visa, issued online in about five working days. Holders of a valid Schengen, US or UK visa can enter visa-free for 90 days.
  • 2There are no direct flights from India; routings are via Dubai, Doha, Sharjah or Istanbul with a 12–16 hour total journey.
  • 3Georgian food is heavily meat and cheese based, but khachapuri, lobio and badrijani are vegetarian staples — you will eat well, just narrowly.

Visa for Indian passports

E-visa applied online, issued in about 5 working days. Visa-free for 90 days if you hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, Canadian, Australian or Japanese visa or residence permit.

Questions

Georgia — Frequently asked

If yours is not here, call or WhatsApp us — the desk answers, not a bot.

Georgia for mountains, wine and old towns; Azerbaijan for a modern capital, desert landscapes and easier flights. Georgia has more variety and better scenery; Baku is slicker and closer. Many travellers combine them — Tbilisi to Baku is an overnight train or a one-hour flight.

Yes on safety — Tbilisi has very low street crime. Less so on ease: English is limited outside the capital, signage is in Georgian script, and the mountain roads need a driver. That is exactly the kind of trip where having the ground handled matters, which is why we only sell it with a driver-guide included.

A week in Georgia costs roughly what four days in Western Europe would. Hotels, food and drivers are all a fraction of Schengen prices, and there is no Schengen visa process to survive. For a first taste of European-style travel on an Indian budget, it is hard to beat.
