Visa-free and visa-on-arrival countries for Indian passports
The published lists are usually out of date and rarely mention what immigration actually asks for. Here is the practical version, grouped by how much paperwork each one really needs.
Most visa-free lists you find online count every country where an Indian passport can technically enter without a prior visa, including places nobody is booking a holiday to. They also tend not to distinguish between genuinely visa-free entry, visa on arrival that still involves a queue and a fee, and an e-visa that takes three days. Those are very different things when you are trying to leave in six weeks.
Truly visa-free — nothing to apply for
You board with your passport and a return ticket. Immigration may ask for proof of accommodation and occasionally proof of funds, so keep a hotel confirmation on your phone.
Visa on arrival — a counter, a fee and a queue
You do not need anything before you fly, but you will spend time at the airport and you will pay. Carry a card; several of these no longer take cash.
E-visa — apply online, wait a few days
Fully online, no embassy visit and no biometrics for most. Treat the stated processing time as a minimum, not a promise, and never book a non-refundable flight before the visa is issued.
- Vietnam — 3 working days, 90 days single or multiple entry
- Azerbaijan — 3 working days via the ASAN system, 30 days single entry
- Georgia — around 5 working days, or visa-free if you hold a valid Schengen, US or UK visa
- UAE — 3 to 5 working days, or visa on arrival with a valid US, UK or Schengen visa
- Kenya, Egypt, Uzbekistan and Cambodia all run comparable e-visa systems
What immigration actually asks for
Visa-free does not mean question-free. Indian passport holders are asked for onward tickets and accommodation more often than most, particularly in Southeast Asia. Three things solve almost every case: a confirmed return ticket, a hotel booking that matches your stated dates, and a credit card or forex card you can show.
- 1Check your passport has at least six months validity from your date of entry, not your date of booking.
- 2Keep two blank pages. Some countries refuse entry without them, visa-free or not.
- 3Carry printed copies. Phone batteries die in immigration queues and several countries will not accept a screen.
- 4If you are travelling with children, carry their birth certificate. Single-parent travel often triggers a request for the other parent's consent letter.
Rules change without notice
Visa policy is one of the fastest-moving things in travel and any list, including this one, is a snapshot. We re-verify the requirement for your specific destination and passport on the call before you pay anything beyond the booking hold, and we hold your departure until the visa is physically in hand.
Have us call you instead
Tell us roughly where and when. No payment, no obligation — we will call you back and talk it through.
